Stronger connections between Palma and New York

Tuesday, October 19th, 2021

From summer 2022, there will be a direct flight connection from Palma to New York. According to an announcement by United Airlines, there will be three direct flights per week between Palma de Mallorca and New York-Newark from June to September 2022.

A direct route between the two cities had been under discussion for some time, and the Balearic government is keen for Mallorca and the neighbouring islands to become a more attractive destination for US tourists. A few years ago, Norwegian Air announced its intention to offer a non-stop connection between Palma and New York. However, this never became a reality and since then, the Corona pandemic had temporarily put a stop to any further plans.

The latest move by United Airlines is a reflection of growing optimism in the tourism industry. The situation has been steadily improving over the last few months and it is hoped that things will normalise further in the coming year. The flight schedule has already been published on the United Airlines website.

From the 3rd of June, there will be flights from Palma to New York every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a flight duration of 9 hours and 15 minutes. Planes from New York to Palma will depart Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. If you are travelling in this direction you will reach your destination a little faster – the flight time is calculated at 8 hours and 5 minutes.

Although the new route still needs final approval by the US government, it is already possible to book a ticket. If you are quick off the mark, you might be able to grab yourself a bargain, as ticket prices are still fairly affordable at the moment. However, depending on demand, this could change quickly, so it might be worth having a look straight away!
