S’Arenal is situated in the south of Mallorca and is close by Palma Airport and Palma city. It’s approximately a 12 minute drive east from Palma airport, 11 km/7 miles. From S’Arenal to Palma city center it’s around 20 minutes.
S’Arenal is popular for a few things. One is its very close to the airport, meaning it’s a very short airport transfer for holiday makers. Another draw to S’Arenal is it’s seemingly endless white sand beach with shallow turquoise waters.
The actual beach continues on past the resort for approximately 6km. Tourists who are keen can walk this either on the shoreline or along the extensive promenade which connects S’Arenal to the Can Pastilla resort.
The promenade is level so it’s adequate for bicycles, pushchairs and wheelchairs. There is also a tourist train that runs between the two resorts. If you decide to walk or wheel there are various small beach huts along the way that offer refreshments and toilet facilities.
There are plenty of sunbeds to hire at Playa de Palma and S’Arenal beaches. Also on offer are watersports activities, such as jet-skiing or paragliding etc.
S’Arenal is also famous for its nightlife with many young people from various European countries visiting this resort. The resort isn’t an extreme party destination like Magaluf but there are a lot of loud and energetic bars and clubs.
While this isn’t the place to come for a quiet getaway it still has a huge appeal and is still very popular with many families who holiday in the resort.
There are a range of holes to play at the Dino Park Mini Golf complex on the outskirts of S’Arenal.
Tourists can play a total of three differing rounds through a dinosaur themed layout. The holes are fairly easy and are fun for all the family, especially children. They wind through dinosaurs, caves, tropical plants, and waterfalls.
Aqualand on the edge of S’Arenal is one of the largest parks in Mallorca and offers more than just water slides.
There are a variety of attractions from a children’s farm to a parrot shows and a little zoo.
There is enough here to entertain visitors and especially families for the best part of the day. The park is open daily during the summer season from May to September. It is possible to walk to the park and the costs are approximately €26 adults, €18.50 for children and €11 for children between 90cm to 110cm.
There are a various boat trips from S’Arenal and they leave from the marina. For tickets and info, there are trip itineraries displayed on the beachfront and by the Marina. The Glass Bottom Boat and snorkel trips are popular.
Club Hipico Veracruz is based just outside S’Arenal and offers riding across the Mallorcan countryside. The address is Cami de Sa Cova, Poligono 7, Parcela 14, 07600 S’ Arenal.
The caves of Genova aren’t in S’Arenal but are just 23 minutes away in a car journey. They are located the other side of Palma City in the Genova urbanization. These are the smallest of the caves in Mallorca but very much worth a tour.
There are separate galleries linked in the cave with naturally formed walkways. A tour guide will lead small groups to the interior, where tourists will descend 36 meters under the ground.
Since Palma is so close and it offers all the conveniences and culture of a classic European city it is a must if you have the desire for shopping and sightseeing.
