On Wednesday, the 1st of March is “Day of the Balearic Islands”, which is a public holiday in Mallorca. This is to commemorate the creation of the Balearic Islands’ autonomous status, which came into force on the 1st of March 1983. A wide variety of events and festivities is held every year, to mark the occasion.
This year there is an added bonus: The use of all the buses in the TIB network is free for everyone for the entire day.
This is not particularly exciting news for those living in Mallorca. Island residents can enjoy free bus travel for a whole year, provided they are in possession of an Intermodal card.
However, this option does not apply to tourists and visitors to the island, who normally have to pay when using the TIB buses. Therefore, do make sure to take advantage of the offer on the 1st of March 2023. You might be able to use the opportunity to go on a day trip and to visit some of the events taking place across the island on “Día de les Illes Balears” or “Day of the Balearic Islands”.
