Passengers flying to and from Palma de Mallorca Airport with easyJet this August can breathe a sigh of relief: the airline’s Spanish cabin crew will no longer go ahead with their planned strike. The decision follows a new pay agreement between easyJet and the USO (Unión Sindical Obrera) union, which represents the majority of the airline’s cabin crew in Spain.
The agreement includes a 22% basic salary increase in 2025, followed by smaller rises over the next two years, and the introduction of a five-tier seniority pay system. Other benefits, such as higher sector pay and a seasonal worker allowance, have also been added.
This news is particularly welcome for travellers who remember the disruption earlier this summer.
Back in June, easyJet cabin crew in Spain held a three-day strike, which caused significant flight cancellations across Spanish airports, including Palma. At Palma Airport alone, more than 50 flights were scrapped, leaving hundreds of passengers facing delays and last-minute changes to their travel plans.
That strike formed part of a wider push for fairer pay, with Spanish-based crew calling for salaries in line with their colleagues at other European bases. While the new agreement does not yet bring full parity, USO says it is an important step forward.
The timing of the cancellation is especially important. With two other strikes looming, one involving Menzies Aviation and another with Azul Handling, both responsible for ground services at Spanish airports, any reduction in potential disruption is welcome news.
For Palma Airport passengers, this means one less cause for concern during a busy summer holiday period. However, the situation with ground handling staff remains unresolved, so travellers should still keep an eye on updates in the coming weeks.
