Severe weather is affecting air traffic at Palma de Mallorca Airport on Friday, the 9th of May 2025.
Spain’s national weather agency, Aemet, issued a yellow warning from midday for heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall of up to 30 mm within an hour possible.
Due to the unstable weather conditions, numerous arriving as well as departing flights are experiencing delays. Several flights had to be diverted to other airports.
Overnight and in the early morning hours, torrential rain led to flooding in parts of the south and east of the island.
For tomorrow, Saturday, the 10th of May, Aemet has issued an orange weather warning for mainland Spain.
The airport operator Aena therefore advises the following:
“@AEMET_Esp has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms, hail, and strong wind gusts in several parts of the mainland. If you’re flying, please check the status of your flight with your airline. We recommend exercising caution when travelling.”
