The two best ways to get from Palma airport to Cala Santanyi is to either pre-book a private airport transfer or take a local taxi from the rank outside the arrivals hall. Below we have put together all the relevant information on the merits of both options so that you can decide which best fits your personal circumstances.
Airport taxi or private transfer?
Deciding on taking a taxi from the airport or pre-booking a private airport transfer is a matter of personal preference, but also depends upon whether or not you are travelling alone, with your family or in a group.
You would assume that taking a taxi from the airport is simply a matter of walking outside the terminal and jumping in a cab. Frequent travellers, however, know that this is not always the case and you can often find yourself having to wait in a long line until a taxi becomes available.
This is especially true at Palma airport as they do not have enough taxis to keep up with the number of arrivals during the peak summer season. Because of this, rogue pirate taxi drivers prey on tourists with various stories as to why they are not picking up from the taxi rank. Do not take one of these cars as they are not licensed and insured to carry passengers.
All taxis in Mallorca use a taximeter to calculate fares and are easy to spot thanks to their universal white paintwork and the red and yellow stripes on the front doors and bonnets. Plus, just like most other places in the world, they are fitted with an illuminated light on the roof to let you know if they are available or not.
The fare depends on the time of day and is more expensive during the night, on weekends and public holidays. Taxis picking up and dropping off at Palma airport also add a surcharge on top of the normal fare. Generally speaking, taxis in Mallorca are 4-door saloons and are only permitted to carry four passengers including children and babies. With them all being a standard size you can only fit three medium-sized suitcases in the trunk. They do not have child safety seats and are not equipped for people with reduced mobility.
Things to remember before taking a taxi
• You may have to wait in a queue.
• Airport taxi rates vary depending on the time of day.
• You don’t know how much it is going to cost until you arrive at your destination.
• Taxis can only take 4 passengers.
• Taxis can only carry 3 medium-sized suitcases.
• Taxis do not have child safety seats.
• You may be approached by pirate taxi drivers.
When using a private airport transfer service it is a bit like being a VIP, as your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall, holding up a card with your name on it. Once you and your luggage are in the car,it’s off to your holiday destination without having to hang around at the airport.
Private airport transfer companies have all types of vehicles that range from standard saloons to minibuses and limousines. What this means is that you can select the type of vehicle that suits your requirements best. You can also request a child safety seat or a vehicle that is fitted with a lift or ramp. Also, there is no having to guess what the fare is going to be as you will be told how much it will cost when you make your booking.
