The quickest and easiest way to get to El Toro from Palma airport is to take a taxi from the taxi rank at the airport or to pre-book a private airport transfer. Here is some information outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each option to help you decide which one is best for you.
All taxis in Mallorca are strictly regulated by the local authorities and are easily recognisable thanks to their distinctive white paintwork adorned with the flag of Mallorca on both front doors and bonnet. To take a taxi from the airport you simply walk outside the arrivals hall from Exit C and the taxi rank is directly in front of you.
After Madrid and Barcelona, Mallorca is the third busiest airport in Spain and is particularly busy during the peak summer months. With a limited number of taxis, this can put a strain on the availability of vehicles often leading to a long queue at the taxi rank at peak times of the day.
Due to the volume of passengers at Palma airport during the summer and the above-mentioned lines at the taxi rank, pirate taxi drivers operate at Palma airport. If you are approached by anyone telling you they are a taxi driver ignore them as they are not licensed and insured and will very likely rip you off. All taxis in Palma have a taximeter so make sure your car has this before getting in.
The cost of a taxi ride in Mallorca is calculated using a basic starting fare and then a charge per kilometre. This fare increases during the night-time and on weekends and public holidays. There is also a supplement added to all journeys that start or end at the airport.
Regular four-door saloons are the go-to cars for taxi use in Mallorca and are strictly limited to carrying only four passengers – that includes children and babies. Also, being a saloon car, there is limited space for luggage. Generally speaking, you can count on being able to fit three medium sized suitcases in the trunk.
As an added note, taxis do not have child safety seats so if you are travelling with small children you might want to consider taking a private airport transfer.
Taking a taxi from Palma airport is an easy option because…
• There is no need to pre-book your car in advance.
• The taxi rank is directly outside the arrivals hall.
• Taxis are easy to recognise thanks to their unique paintwork.
When holidaying in Mallorca, many people like to arrange for a private airport transfer service to meet them at the airport. The way it works is that you book your vehicle in advance – the driver will then be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive and will usually be able to help with your luggage. You will be informed of the exact cost of the journey when booking, taking out all the guessing that goes into calculating a taxi fare.
Using a private airport transfer gives you peace of mind to know that you won’t have to struggle with your luggage and that you will be on your way to your destination without having to wait for a taxi. Private airport transfers also give you the opportunity to select what type of vehicle you need – from a saloon car to a 19 seat minibus. If you have a passenger with special needs or require a child safety seat, you can let the private airport transfer service know during the booking process.
The advantages of taking a private airport transfer over a taxi are…
• You know exactly how much it is going to cost.
• No hanging around at the airport.
• You are able to select the type of vehicle that best suits your needs.
• You can request a child safety seat or wheelchair ramp.
• You don’t have to worry about pirate taxi drivers approaching you.

With Mallorca being such a popular holiday destination, there are several private airport transfer companies operating on the island. The one we always recommend to people is a company called Solhop. They know Mallorca inside and out are extremely proud of their reputation for being the number one rated private airport transfer company on TripAdvisor. All of their drivers speak English and they tend to use newer, more upmarket vehicles than some other private airport transfer companies. What we like best about Solhop is that there is no need to use a credit or debit card when making a booking. You are told how much the journey is going to cost and you simply pay the driver once you arrive at your destination. Often, people’s plans change and you have to amend a booked transfer or even cancel it completely. Solhop understands this and does not charge you if you have to make changes or cancel the booking.
