Getting to Cala Bona – Taxi transfers, Car hire & Bus

Getting to Cala Bona from Palma airport can be arranged in a few different ways. These could be; hiring a car, taking a taxi or pre-booked private transfer, using the train partway or catching a bus.

Cala Bona is on the east coast of Mallorca and is approximately 71km/44miles from Palma airport. The roads aren’t too busy and most of the journey is on the Ma-15.  It’s roughly a 60 minute car journey from Palma airport.

Should you decide to take the bus, there are several different options.  There is a direct bus service from the airport, however, in the winter this route only has one bus a day.  Alternatively, you can travel via Palma city bus station, which is 8km/5miles east of Palma de Mallorca Airport. Another option is to travel via Can Pastilla, next to the airport.

A Taxi for 1-4 persons to Cala Bona is approximately €90-100.  Taxi fares range in price depending on; the company, the season/holidays, the amount of baggage and the time of day.

Parking in the summer season can be tight around the center of Cala Bona.  Therefore a taxi transfer is a good option to avoid driving and parking stress.

Palma airport taxi area is directly in front of the arrivals building on the ground floor and there are normally plenty of waiting taxis available.

However at busy times it may be that you have to wait in the taxi queue.  Mallorca airport taxis do charge a fixed price but it is always better to get a price before the start of your journey as there can be variables.  This could mean you will charged more than expected.

Please bear in mind that most Mallorca airport taxis will only take a maximum of 4 passengers per taxi. Hence this means that if you are a family of five passengers, even if one is a very small baby, you will need to take two taxis. This will cost a lot more.  Another point worth noting is that taxis at Mallorca airport don’t always have safety seats for children available.

Pre-Booked Private Transfer

Pre-booking a private taxi transfer is probably the most comfortable and convenient way to get to Cala Bona from Palma airport.

If you choose to take a taxi from Mallorca airport it might be better for your party to pre-book a private transfer in advance.  This is because it can often work out to be more economic especially if you are a larger group and is often a more comfortable vehicle.

With a pre-booked private transfer it is possible to have peace of mind and book child safety seats in advance. So you will have the assurance that they will be in the vehicle for your children when you arrive.

Another plus about pre-booked private transfers is that you will usually get a more luxurious vehicle than a regular taxi. Your driver will meet you with a name placard in Palma airport’s public arrivals hall.  Drivers also often help with luggage.

With a pre-booked private transfers it is possible to book a vehicle large enough for your family. The larger vehicles come in sizes of 1-7 minivans or 8-20 minibuses.  If you require a coach some private websites offer their services.

Getting to Cala Bona with a hire car

If you choose to hire a car at Palma airport to get to Cala Bona, it will be about an hour to drive and isn’t too difficult.

Simply exit the airport taking the main highway in the direction Palma city. This will be the Autovia Ma-19 to Palma city.

Stay on the Ma-19 for 1.6km/1mile until the next exit at junction 6. Exit the Ma-19 onto the slip road you will come to a roundabout, take the third exit towards Inca on the Ma-30.

Your will approach a roundabout within the first 250metres, continue straight over this and stay on the Ma-30 for a further 1.5km/1mile until you come to a large roundabout. Take the first exit onto the Ma-15 heading towards Manacor. Stay on the Ma-15 for approximately 54km/34miles until Sant Llorenç.

If your hire car was from one of the car hire companies next to the airport on the east side of the airport, it is however better not to join the main highway. Rather from the car hire pick up place head north on the Ma-19a which is parallel to the car hire parking lots and to the airport. On the Ma-19a after 2km/1.5miles you will come to a roundabout and will need to take the second exit towards Manacor on the Ma-5013, this is practically straight over the roundabout and still heading northwards. Eventually after another 3km/2miles you will come to a large round about, take the first exit towards Manacor onto the Ma-15 and stay on this for approximately 48km/30miles until Sant Llorenç.

Exit Ma-15 at Sant Llorenç

When approaching the town of Sant Llorenç the road will start to bypass the town. Midway around the town you will come to a large roundabout and will need to take the second exit heading towards Cala Millor, this is the Ma-4030.

Stay on the Ma-4030 for approximately 6km where you will come to a roundabout and will need to go straight over. The road will change to the Ma-4040, stay on this for a further 1km until the next roundabout and take the first exit onto the Ma-4023 heading towards Cala Millor.

Follow the Ma-4023 for 2.3km/1.4miles until the next roundabout where you take the fourth exit for Cala Millor on the Ma-4046.  Stay on this for just under 1km until the next roundabout where you need to take the third exit for Cala Bona on the Ma-4027. Stay on the Ma-4027 for approximately 1.6km/1mile and hence you will be at Cala Bona.
