Getting to Palmanova – Taxi transfers, Car hire & Bus

Getting to Palmanova from Palma airport can be made in a few ways. The popular methods are hiring a car, pre-booking a private transfer, taking a taxi or taking the bus.

The town of Palmanova located on the east of Mallorca and is 26km/16miles from Palma airport. Palmanova is close to the airport but the roads can become busy around Palma city at peak times. It takes approximately 23 minutes in a car from Mallorca airport.

Palma bus station is 8km/5miles east of Palma Airport in the same direction as Palmanova. If you decide to take the bus, you will first need to take the airport bus to the main bus station in Palma city. Once there they can take the bus to Palmanova.

Taxi – Private Transfer

Parking in and around Palmanova center during the the peak season can be a little problematic. Therefore a taxi transfer to the resort can be a nice option as it’s quick and helps avoid the hassle of driving and parking.

The Palma airport taxi area is just in front of arrivals on the ground floor. There are typically lots of taxis waiting at Mallorca airport so this makes taking a taxi an inviting option.

However at busy peak times passengers may have to wait in the taxi queue.

Palma airport taxis do have a fixed price system but it’s best to get an estimate before you start the journey. This is because there are variables which can increase the final price.

A Taxi for 1-4 persons to Palmanova is approximately €39, which when divided by four is less than €10 each. Taxi prices range due to; the company and the time of day, the season/holidays and the amount of luggage.

Most airport taxis in Mallorca will only take 4 passengers per taxi. So if you are a party of five and there are no larger taxis are available you will need to take a second taxi. Hence it will cost more than you may have budgeted for. This also applies even if one in the group is a baby.

Waiting taxis at Palma airport don’t necessarily have child safety seats available. Often drivers borrow these from colleagues but this is not a guarantee they will be there.

Pre-Booked Private Transfer

Pre-booking a private taxi transfer is probably the most comfortable way to get from Palma airport to Palmanova. This includes arrival and departures all through the night or  any time of the day as they work 24 hours.

Pre-booked private transfers often work out cheaper especially for larger parties.  Private transfer vehicles used are often luxury vehicles.

Transfers can be pre-booked for vehicles of various sizes. Vehicles typically come in sizes of 1-4 cars, 1-7 minivans or 8-20 minibuses. In most cases it’s possible to book a vehicle large enough for your party.

If you book a taxi from Palma airport this will invariably be from a private transfer website. There are some websites that even hire private coaches for very large groups.

However due to the nature of their taxi license, private transfers do need to be booked in advance.  Ideally if you want to guarantee availability you will need to book at least with 24hours ahead of time.

Some other perks are that drivers will meet passengers with a name placard in the airport’s public arrivals hall and usually help with luggage.

To give anxious parents peace of mind, it’s good to know that when pre-booking a private transfer it’s possible to book child safety seats in advance.
